Journey To Kani

Breakfast Run - 07/08/2023

It is early morn in the town of smaragdus and the dwellers of this quaint and remote neighborhood are preparing for the day. The aroma of magi croissants, sweet honey and honey suckle mead fill the air.  Larleth Clandestine stealthily laid atop of a canopy directly above the baker's stand. She could feel the warmth envelope her like her favorite wool blanket and she could smell the flaky and buttery magi croissants tucked safely in wicker baskets. Larleth's clan designated her the honorary food runner and she knew exactly the reason. She is adorable, fluffy and soft her deceivingly endearing appearance is what makes it easier for her to steal food from the dwellers of smaragdus. Larleth spent countless mornings, afternoons and nights scheming up various diversions to successfully snag sustenance to bring back to the clan. This particular day however she was distracted, she could feel a piercing gaze on her and the hairs on the back her neck were at attention. she slowly turned her head towards the gaze and discovered that she was being watched.

Surprisingly enough it was not a human,  a dweller of smaragdus but a tiefling she had never laid eyes on before. The tiefling quickly dropped their gaze and continued down the road towards an abandon building. Larleth noticed that the dwellers were suspicious and afraid of the tiefling but quickly put the whole scenario out of her mind. Now that she had been seen,  she needed to grab the breakfast and go. She quickly got up and began to lightly hop across the canopy.  Larleth didn't notice a small pool of water that had collected in the center of the canopy. She hopped and landed all four paws into the puddle and when sprinting she slipped and tripped over her own paws, tearing a hole into the canopy and landing safely in a basket of magi croissants. She cautiously poked her head out of the basket wondering if anyone had heard or seen this unforgivable escapade. She began hastily to fill her special smugglers backpack with all the magi croissants within her grasp. Suddenly she stopped, the sound of the baker's footsteps were at first distant but now she could feel the vibrations of his hefty boots thumping against the loose gravel. Larleth prepared to use her charms on the barker to quickly slip away. Though what happened next Larleth did not expect.

A voice unfamiliar to Larleth was speaking to the baker. The voice urged the baker to investigate the young boy with a stone in hand at the window in the house behind his stand. The voice claimed they witnessed the boy tossing stones at the canopy.  The baker was furious and stomped off in a huff toward the boy in question. There was only silence and Larleth knew this was her moment, she popped out of the basket onto the gravel and happily hopped away toward the forest. She couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. She again turned slowly, now looking up at the tiefling who with piercing eyes held a burning curiosity.  The two stood there staring at each other for so long they didn't notice the baker who made how way to his stand. The baker yelled out that's the thief that continues to steal my goods.
